What to expect as a USSI coach:

Okay, so you've been hired as a US Sports Institute coach on our summer camp program, what should you expect now?

1. Securing a visa
The first step to working in the US is to secure the appropriate visa. You will be guided through this by our knowledgeable, experienced support team. We will be available to provide support during the months leading up to your departure and will be able to answer any questions you may have.

2. Travelling to the US
Prior to departure to the US, you will be provided with all of your flight and insurance details to ensure you are prepared for take-off. USSI will book and pay for your flight, all coaches will typically fly together. Upon arrival in the States, you will be welcomed at the airport by our senior management staff who will then transport you back to your initial orientation accommodation base.

3. Orientation Week
The US Sports Institute orientation is the most important week of the summer. All new staff will spend their first week on orientation. USSI is the only camp provider in the US that spends a full week orientating and educating new coaches.  We pride ourselves on the lengths we go to in order to enable our staff to perform to the levels that we expect of a USSI coach. You will take part in a mock multi-sport camp and be coached in the manner we expect from our staff. You will play all of the sports we coach on camp and you will also learn the curriculum's for our sport specific camps. By the end of orientation we're confident that you'll possess all of the tools that you need for a successful summer!

4. Move to your accommodation base and begin coaching!
At the end of orientation week you will move to your accommodation base in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut or Massachusetts where you will work out of for the next 8-9 weeks. You may also get the chance to go on camps further afield from your accommodation base for a week at a time which is a great opportunity to see even more of the US!

During the Summer, you will be in close contact with a management staff member who will provide you with the support you need to fully enjoy your Summer. This will involve two staff meetings per week to discuss camp and other issues that you may have. In addition to these meetings, you will also have access at all times to our Human Resource Department for any other issues you may face.  You will be supported by our own full time staff throughout your time in the US. Unlike many companies, the USSI is a full time, year-round organization which allows us to offer our staff an unrivalled level of support.

5. After coaching
At the end of the Summer, a large number of our staff choose to take the opportunity to travel around the country as J1 visas typically last for 30 days after your contract expires. Previous coaches have visited places as far afield as California, Nevada & Florida. If you are not planning on travelling then your flight home will leave on the Saturday following the last week of camp. You will be provided with transport back to the airport if you are leaving at this time.
