Squirts Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sports Squirts good for my child?
Yes! Every sport played during Sport Squirts promotes the development of gross & fine motor skills, encourages peer group interaction, develops communication skills and is an excellent form of exercise. All activities take place in a low pressure environment and are non competitve - every child is a winner with Sports Squirts!
What if my child has never played before?
No problem, for many participants, Sports Squirts is their first introduction to sport.

Our qualified staff ensure that all ability levels are catered for and every child receives the individual attention they deserve.
Can friends be in the same group?
If the children are close in age then absolutely yes. In all of our programs, providing the age and ability of the friends is similar, we try to place friends together if requested.

We have found from past programs that being with a friend or family member can increase confidence, interaction and overall enjoyment.
Do I have to stay with my child?
If you are registered on a 'Parent and Me' class you are required to stay and participate in the class with your child.

For regular Squirts' Classes it’s your choice and really comes down to how your child will react. Some parents watch each session, some do not.  We are happy for you to do either.

We find that during the first few weeks children typically benefit from parent observation and encouragement. However, in some cases children may interact more with the group if the parent leaves.

Each case is different and it's often a judgment call for both the parent and coach.  As each child progresses often confidence increases and parents are able to gradually withdraw.

Please note: If your child is not potty trained you are required to stay!
Who will coach my child?
USSI trainers are fully qualified sports coaches who have a background in teaching & education. Our staff receive program specific training in order to get the very best out of each Squirt.

We pride ourselves on providing multiple sport experiences in such a way that we can optimize the learning and development of each participant. For more information on our USSI staff please click here
How are groups determined?
Typically groups are decided by age. When there are large programs which allow multiple groups then the Squirts will be split by age. On smaller programs with only enough squirts for one group all ages will participate together.
Can I get discount on the class fee?
There are three ways in which you can save money on all camps and classes:

1. Join Gold Club. Pay once and you'll save for life.  This is a no brainer if you ever plan on registering for more than 1 class or camp as it will pay for itself. One membership covers your whole family too!

My child isn't 3 yet. Can I still register?
Only children aged 3 or over may participate in the regular Squirts Classes but we also offer Parent and Me Classes for children ages 18 months to 3.5 years.
What do I need to bring to class?
Your child will need plenty of water and lots of energy. For outdoor classes you should ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Please pay special attention to providing your child with plenty to drink; if in doubt, over estimate!
What comes after Squirts for my child?
The US Sports Institute provides progressive, developmental coaching for all age groups. When your child has graduated from one class, there's always a level to move on to.

Once your child is too old for Sports Squirts the next step is our popular Multi Sports Camp.

What if it rains?

Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather. If a class is cancelled in the spring or fall, an extra week/s will be added at the end of the session.  If a time is lost during a summer squirts camp, extra time will be added on to the remaining days to make up for lost time.

To check the status of a class please check the web or click here. If there is no cancellation notice on this page then the class is on.

Please do not call our regular office number for rain out information as the web site is typically updated remotely from staff closer to the actual sites. Thanks!
